A Bespoke Approach Tailored to Your Needs
Working as an integrative counsellor I believe that counselling is not a one size fits all service and there is not one therapeutic approach that is equipped to help all clients in all situations. By combining different elements of specific therapies my approach is aimed at blending relevant theories and interventions to suit the needs of you, the client.
As your therapist, my role is to work with you and help you to explore and make sense of your world. I am passionate about my work and integrate three main therapeutic theories and techniques to offer a bespoke service tailoring my approach to you and your needs.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Working through the past to
promote a better future
We'll work together to process your past life experiences to see how they could be manifesting in your behaviour and the impacts on the present. Some benefits of using a psychodynamic approach are that it helps clients to become more self-aware, boost self-esteem, and improves your ability to create and maintain healthy relationships. However, this will require you to dig deep into your personal history, which I often refer to as getting to the root cause. This may seem challenging, and some may find it uncomfortable. Uncovering painful memories it never a easy task. Nevertheless, this will be something that we do together, and as your counsellor I will be there to support you through the process.
Person-Centered/ Humanistic Therapy
Focusing on how
you see things
Keeping you, the client, at the heart of the counselling process. What this means is that whilst working through issues, we focus on what you bring. Essentially, the sessions are directed by your thoughts and ideas of what is occurring for you. This approach is useful as it focuses on how you consciously perceive yourself here and now, rather then how I the counsellor interpret it.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Thoughts and actions
led by you
CBT is mainly concerned with how we think and act now, although sometimes our current difficulties are related to things which have happened in our past, and so these might also be part of what we talk about.
Most sessions begin with agenda setting - agreeing together what that session will concentrate on. I will not tell you what to do or what to talk about. CBT works best when it involves working on things in between sessions as well as during them. So you may be given homework and things to complete between your session. Tasks will be planned together.
